Pickering is a market town in the Ryedale area of North Yorkshire.
It is located around a roundabout where the A169 road from Whitby to Malton & York meets with the A170 road from Scarborough to Helmsley & Thirsk.
The town has a ruined castle, and also serves as the southern terminus of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which the leading UK Heritage Railway also uses as it’s main admin base.
There also used to be a “fun fishing” lake where you could catch trout, but it’s apparently been filled in and turned into a car park
